a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Tadpoles and Frogs

Marcy has tadpoles in her rain barrels and tubs.
She places sticks in the water so when they transform into frogs they can climb out safely. There are many kinds that raise here: Bull frogs, Leopard frogs,  Tree frogs and maybe more we don't know.
I was fortunate to see one emerging with a small tail still visible.
The tiny tree frog made my fingers look very large.
I believe it may be one of these.
They love this tall ornamental grass.
Warming or bug waiting?
Your guess is good as mine.
Sometimes there are more than one
of different sizes.
When dark comes they will raise their voices
so large and loud they sound much bigger than they are.

So glad I got back online in time to see your tadpoles and frogs!
Those little tree frogs look so cute, wish we had them.

ps, I usually unroll about half a toilet roll for Ted's nest when I clean the cage and then leave the rest of the roll for him to do himself.

That's wild they appear in the rain barrel. Frogs are good for bugs.

amazing amazing and amazing. the tadpole, the starting to change and the changed. they sure are loud... our rain barrel breeds mosquitoes so bad we have to put chorine in it... so no frogs...

We kept a bowl full of tadpoles long ago. They all died except one I think

Fascinating to watch them evolve.

I don't think I've ever watched them evolve, but nice they have some sticks to climb out on as they lose their tails.

What a sweet thing for her to do! You snapped them at just the right time, still transitioning! So cool! They are ever so tiny!! I think so many are born because most do not survive. Being so tiny and helpless. It is a wonder that any survive. The adults eyes look golden!

The bright green one is a Green Tree Frog. We have the Gray Tree Frog around here. When we kept rain barrels we went had this happen. I loved it. As a kid in Texas, I used to collect the tadpoles and grow them up in buckets. There was a big variety! Thanks!

Tree frogs are adorably tiny but you are so right about their voices. In Fla while driving home at night, I could hear the din they made with windows rolled up and A/C on.
