My Story

The need for my hospital stay is a severe infection that keeps erupting. First place top of right foot, second; outside of left knee, third; right index finger, all of which have been extremely painful and disgusting.

I had been seeing a practitioner, she never cultured it, did not seem too concerned with my general health and gave me two antibiotics.

My employee got rather upset with P's lack of concern for my health. She made me an appointment with a real doctor, who immediately began a culture, admitted me, sent a neuro-bone guy who left surgery to see me, they took buckets of blood and put me on an iv antibiotic and keep me over night to make sure I did not need surgery.

When I found out this morning, I did not need surgery, it was not in my joints, I broke out with strict instructions to follow up and take my new meds.

In observation, good things happened and not so good things. I had a room but the bathroom was across the waiting area. I had one nurse that could not get my vein, one rolled, one blew....rather painfully, I might add. New nurse comes and finds a good vein right away. Seth, my wonderful night nurse, brought me chocolate ice cream.

I did survive the night. I thought it was very convenient that a cemetery was just behind my room.

Oh Gail, I'm so sorry the previous doctor was so uninterested in caring for you properly. I hope you get good news from the culture results and heal up real soon. As always, I'll be keeping you in my prayers.
Love,
Sharon

Add a multivitamin and vitamin C. Get new work boots and gloves for working outside. Have one of your minions bleach the heck out of the shower/tub. Don't mess around with an infection that expresses itself in multiple areas- first one place and then the other. Ain't good-which is why the doctors were dropping what they were doing to look at you.

Now that I'm done lecturing, I want to say I hope you're better soon. I'd have given you anything your little heart desires too. I'm glad you had a good nurse.

Well, I'm glad that you can joke about it. I hope that means you are keeping your spirits up. Please, take care of yourself. And listen to Rudee.

What a bummer! I didn't even realize anything was happening. I miss one day of a visit and all h--- breaks loose! I hope you are feeling somewhat better and the meds are helping clear up the infection.

Will they be able to find out just what kind of infection is traveling all around through out your body and having a nice vacation at your expense?

I wish you a SPEEDY recovery.

GAH!! Poor Gail! I had no idea you were going through this. Yikes!
What an awful and scary ordeal you've been through.
Do you have sand fleas where you are? I saw a thing on Animal Planet about this guy who suffered from what Dr.'s said was just a recurring infection. Come to find out it was caused by some sort of sand flea larvae that burrows into the skin after being bitten. ack!

I sure hope you're doing better now. Even in pain and discomfort, though, you still have a crazy sense of humor...though I'm not sure whether to laugh...or wince!

Hey Gail, what's up? You're suddenly in the hospital and I knew nothing about it! You silly woman. You do keep silent about yourself and your ailments! I hope you'll get well soon and that you'll take very good care of yourself. Obviously you had blood poisoning. And not a peep out of you!

Hugs,
Irene

Please listen to what Rudee said and especially your new doctor too.

Oh my, whoever put that cemetery right behind the hospital was rather thoughtless! Or perhaps the cemetery was there first, then they built the hospital next door.

Glad the 2nd dr took more interest. I had a dr back in Ohio that was like your first one. I rarely went to see him, so when I did, it was because I was either in much pain, or really, really sick. He always acted like nothing was wrong with me.

Very glad you are ok, and don't have to have any surgery. Hope the antibiotics work!!
