a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Shootin' Horses Ain't Easy!

You have them lined up in your sites,
they move,
they make funny faces.
They'll be standing pretty,
they spy you
and come looking for a treat
while looking as pretty as an ole plow horse.
They know you're gonna shoot!
Sometimes they even shake like a dog.
But it's hard to get a shot
when there're chestnuts on the ground.
You think you have a clean shot,
then someone moves an inch
and you end up with a miss.
Even climbing high to shoot doesn't help.
They know you're out to get 'em.
Finally, you get lucky...
and get a fair shot.
This is too much work for me!

For a second I thought you meant the other sort of shooting . . . :P I need to spend more time around photographers!

I can see why getting a good picture of horses would be hard.

If I could just get a quarter for every roll of film I wasted in order to get 'that one' picture of my guys... I'd be better off... I thought going digital would help... but I just fill up the memory cards in a matter of minutes and then have to sort through them...

I thought you meant the other kind of shooting at first as well. LOL The pictures are great! Your horses are beautiful!!!

Goats are just as bad.. For every good pic I have 10 of Noses, Tails and/or disappearing goats...

Yes I know, it is not always easy to photograph horses or animals, but you do it very well :)

Gail, this post cracks me up! I can photograph anything that doesn't move, but let me try to get a good shot of one of my pets or another beautiful animal, and they read my mind! You can't even sneak up on them!

Some horses photograph well...and others not so much.

Baby Doll seemed to know she was being photographed and always posed for me. Apache won't let me get far enough away to snap the camera, and the camera often catches her with a crazy wonky face.

I think horses are a lot like people when it comes to being photographed. lol!

Gail, haha-you totally summed up all the things that occur as you TRY to photograph an equine!! Actually felines are super difficult as well.

My mare is so bored with the black box(used to be silver) she hardly EVER pricks her ears up for me!
For a TB she looks like a registered HAG most shots!

Oh, for goodness sakes. When I read the title and saw the horse's face on the first picture, I thought you were going to put the horse down. I was debating reading it. I'm glad you're just taking pictures. It's making me laugh at my mistake.

That last shot is a beauty. I like the eyes on that brown and white horse. Is that what is called a paint or a pinto or maybe neither,I love horses but we only had quarter horses and Tennessee Walkers when I grew up and they locked a lot alike to me !!
Have a blessed tomorrow.

You got the picture! You also demonstrated one of the main rules of photography - take LOTS of pictures - then take some more. (Very easy to do with digital cameras, true). All the Best! and Keep 'shooting'. ;)

The beauty of the digital cameras nowadays--you can take tons of pictures and it doesn't cost a thing! Anyway, I think all your pics looked great.

At first I also thought you meant the other kind of "shooting" but it made it a great, attention getting title for your post! :) I love the pictures, I think they are great but I do agree that animals are the most difficult thing to take pictures of.
