Fire flies
Light the night
Blinking signals
Left and right
Sparking memories
Of captured lights
Sitting jarred
Through out the night
A childhood reminder
They light my dark
Come morning
Releasing the sparks
Another night
Another game
I caught them again
Were they the same?
As a child
I never thought
Capturing the lights
Would have a cost

kind of bittersweet or melancholy tones. i love seeing them (free) here.
this is beautiful and i agree with TexWisGirl.. bittersweet and lots of memories. I could never put them in a jar. i can't even stand to see a goldfish in a bowl...I am a Free Willy type person... but i do love fire flies and have not seen them in many years.. my brother liked to catch them.
Enjoy your posts! Don't want to gross anyone out, but I remember removing the light from the tail of the firefly and placing it on your finger as a ring! Looking back, it's kind of offensive, to say the least. Sorry Sandra. :-)
Tex is right . . . melancholy . . .
I love to sit on the porch and watch that nighttime dance!
I remember one time we had some people over and the gal had never seen Fireflies . . . she was in awe.
As a young girl I remember it seemed there were millions dancing in the woods . . . there are less so now . . .
One of your best . . .
Okay, this one is my favorite! What good memories it brings. We called them lightening bugs. Once my brother and I asked mama if we could camp out and use our jar of lightening bugs for our light.
The sweetness of childhood memories... oh, to bring back those days of simple pleasures and carefree days! Beautiful poem, Gail!
Seems there were a lot more when I was younger....:)JP
We of course have them here, and I'm always taken back to my childhood when I see them. I am grateful to be able to have them around when they are disappearing from so many places.
As little children, we danced with the fireflies all round the lawn n path. Mom always said if you danced with the fireflies - they would always light the path ahead of you. Lovely Poem Gail - took me way back to wonderful memories. Thanks a bunch n hugz to Marcy n hullo to all.
I used to spend a many a summer night chasing fireflies when I was younger. I don't seen them as often anymore...but I wonder if that's just because we don't see things the same when we are older.
Fire flies...... are amazing little bugs provide to us for wonderful entertainment.
My husband has often expressed sorrow over all the fireflies he caught in jars. Now it's hard to find any at all.
