I Crave Not A Meal But You

Out of Standard prompt...
Pigeon Superstition

I crave not a meal but you
i kiss a bird's feather
and brush the dog
again and again and again
until you're here with me.

the same things i do
to convince you to stay
are done over and over
and you stay

the night we watched
Haley's Comet
i thought you would go
but you stayed

i knew that night
it was your love
that brought you and my love
caused you to stay

the rest was
only pigeon superstition
i couldn't risk you leaving
to wait for Haley's Comet
i crave not a meal but you

Nice, Gail. Love for sure. I'd rather eat first and takemy chances on her staying.
BTW, Mrs. Jim and I watched both Haley's Comet and Comet Kahoutek together after parking on a dark street.

Excellent opening line Gail! I like how you book ended this poem with that sentiment. This piece is fraught with emotion and I appreciated your words. Thanks for posting and viva la!

I guess trust was born...love how you opened and closed this piece with the same words.

I hope that we do not have to have another comet's tail to seal the deal.. it's good it can be just that once...

If i ever use that closing sentence of I crave not a meal, only you, you will need to build my coffin. NOTHING comes between me and food. as you can tell by looking. As for the rest of the poem i like it a lot and it does say love

Timelessness from one Haley's Comet (1986?) to the next--sweet expression of such love.
