Leaving A Rock

Honoring Judith Wright through an environmental poem for the challenge at Imaginary Garden With Real Toads Sunday's Mini-Challenge  hopefully using the Trimeric  form used by Mary for Poets United-Poetry Pantry.
Taking A Rock

I gather rocks selfishly
As if it makes no difference
Every rock I take leaves a hole
Changing the nature of things

As if it makes no difference
The world will miss the grains of sand
That I hold in my hand.

Every rock I take leaves a hole
Deltas, new mountains, ocean shores
All began as a rock and more

Changing the nature of things
Rocks were mountains once
And will rise again

One rock is just a small change, a million rocks will move mountains... We should be aware of consequences...

this is so true. removing shells from our gulf and ocean and removing driftwood has destroyed many beaches. each thing has its place. like removing so many fish to make a profit has caused the sharks to come in close to shore to find food. removing grass and trees has uspet our wildlife

I know nothing about the Trimeric form but I sure did like your version!
Well done . . .

I admire how one rock can change nature, its shore, delta and mountains ~

A wise message on the environment Gail ~

Thanks for participating with Real Toads and wishing you Sunday ~

Hello Gail, what a wonderful poem. So true, it is best to take nothing and leave only footprints. Happy Sunday, enjoy your new week ahead!

A profound thought and true. Every thing we touch, move and practically breathe on changes the course of the world in some way. Great poem!

I always love your words and your pictures. Since I love rocks, I totally understand.
I am so glad you got rain.

This is really lovely. I'm not familiar with the form; I'll have to check it out.

This reminds me of that saying that if a butterfly flaps his wings somewhere a fierce storm will blow.
The problem is we cannot exist without disturbing the very air that we must breathe to survive.
Have a cool Sunday..and for me that means A/C on high...gosh it is HOT out there.

This is powerful and, as a dedicated rock lover, it really resonates with me. I love that mountains will rise again!

Ah, one rock can indeed create change. I have a small collection of rocks. I usually pick one up in my travels, for me it is symbolic of my journey. I saw this form that Mary has used. I will need to try this as well.

Everything starts small... So many things seem not to matter... If we only truly looked... and thought.

I agree. Even if you move a rock, the environment is changed!

Wonderful! Geology - the big and small of it - is an endless, extended metaphor for much of life, isn't it.

Rocks are reminders of where earth came from and where it is going.

This is really nice. Was reflecting on this very idea yesterday as I joined my kids with filling up buckets full of ocean rocks to bring home from the beach.

This made me think that it os not only us that is living - but the world around us too and how we effect - I suppose it is impossible to live without leaving behind some kind of footprint and yet when it is respectfully done and not taken for granted I am sure the Earth understands

Jae. Thanks for visiting and for your kind comments. For the life of me I can not find your blog. Help!

I think I like the idea of leaving a rock, but I'm much more like you in the fact that I take them as often as my heart desires! For me I have favorite places for all kinds of rock, stone, shell and other delightful goodies!

I am an evil rock-collector, too! Like you,I am conscious that I SHOULD leave them in situ, but....

What a great reminder to ourselves that even small actions like this which though inconsequential in themselves reflect Mankind as a whole who is affecting the planet by his continuous exploration and destruction of the world with no thought to its sustainability.

We never consider all the small things we do add up to one large change.. Love your viewpoint and driving that fact home.

I never thought of this, and it really intrigued me.

I will still be picking up rocks, but now I will choose them with greater respect somehow.

Really like the lines: "Every rock I take leaves a hole
Changing the nature of things" Indeed, the world around changing everytime we touch in any way its beauty....But never the hole stays long...something new filled the empty space....makes me pondering...nice poem and inspiration.
