Time

Weekend Mini-challenge
With picture prompt from Mindlovemisery's Menagerie

After midnight we turn
into what we were
party's over
masks are dropped

Locking ourselves
in rooms of regret
we question the realities
of time after time

Like Alice the sign says eat
we do
the hands drop from time
as Poe's Raven screams Nevermore

The two opening lines set this up for a thought-provoking read.

"We question the realities of time after time" is such a very apt phrase for what we do not question enough! An interesting and thought-provoking piece--I am trying to do a lot more questioning as I age. Thanks. k .

I really like this one. You painted a clear picture for me, one that I think is very relatable. Excellent, Gail.
Someday I will rejoin poetry circles. Unfortunately, too much keeps me from writing and meme sharing right now.

What a wonderful combination of the stories we all know so well into something all your own, yet universal. Two thumbs up!

'Party's over masks are dropped'

'We question the reality'

'the hands drop from time'

My three favourite pieces - don't know why? Should I analyse why?
No ... I just enjoyed it.

Well Done

All the best Jan

Interesting that the masks are dropped after midnight. If only there was no need to wear masks at all!

A riveting read. In fact, I read it two, then three times. many thoughts and connections in there.

Rooms of regret..if walls could talk I wonder what stories they would tell..the second stanza really touches a chord.

That is a powerful closing, so often we go out into the world desperate to belong return home feeling ashamed and dirty and not at all loved or worthy (no matter how much positive reinforcement was received). So many of us feel like impostors and live with this constant fear of being found out because we never let anyone see or love the real person inside.

I have said 'Nevermore' a number of times, but it doesn't work for me!

great sense of Poe in your lines and the images fitting.

"locking ourselves into rooms of regret" and Poe's raven screaming nevermore were my favorite parts of this poem, but I liked the whole.

locking ourselves in rooms of regret....makes one wonder how many of us do that, when in reality, we hold the keys to set ourselves free.
