All Is Well?

A past summer day
of fireflies apples and daisies
does not cover
the fallen stars of our nation

Some wear many bracelets
but dedicated to none
we swirl and twist our causes
careful to keep them secret

While we still refuse
to remove the glasses
those rose colored glasses
that erroneously confirm
All is well

Well done, Gail. I really like this poem. I believe you nailed this one quite well.

your poem is well written, beautiful in fact BUT i want to believe that we are united and on 9/11, we took off our rose colored glasses!!!

I have to agree here, there are a lot of very very troubling things happening and a lot of denial as well. Powerful piece!

Rose colored glasses might be as damaging as war itself... many things are happening that we refuse to hear..

This is truth. Sometimes we want to believe so much that things are getting better that we continue to blind ourselves to the reality of the things that are still so wrong.

Yes, those rose-colored glasses can, unfortunately, sometimes hide the truth.

We have a whole continent wearing those glasses, my friend. I love this poem. You nailed it.

This is so true.. a lot of people just don't want to see the truth.

Here's a poem with bite! Even those of us who are activists spread ourselves too thin.

Ah, those rose-coloured glasses. They hide the truth but it doesn't make it go away.

For change to take place the glasses have to be removed so one can see the full picture.

Powerful poem without being strident or preachy. Excellent work. Hayes Spencer is Kanzensakura

Very good . . . not sure about the rose colored glasses. I want to believe it isn't so . . .

It is sad to be disillusioned in one's home and representatives.

Yep, I think you got this one just right.

More's the pity.

Those fireflies apples and daisies are so redolent.. i think all is well often means quite the contrary!

mhm, sometimes it's hard to take those glasses off, but eventually they do.

Interesting mix and some truth uncovered...remember my piano student with multiple bracelets refused to take them off as they meant some friendship promises....

The mix of what we do and what we say, the hiding of who we are.
