Hubby Cooks...

That statement by itself is rather scary.  I have to admit, he is a good cook, makes a mean pot of homemade chili, can fry chicken to a golden delicious brown, and can make gravy that would be the envy of chefs worldwide.

The down side is the man is a slob in the kitchen!!!

Last night as he was cooking fresh Gelbveih burgers, I came through to see if I could help.  He asks, what's on my foot, lifting it for me to see.  I said, your sock.  No, he said there is something on my sock that is making me slide around.  Upon closer inspection, I peeled a flattened piece of ground meat from the bottom of his sock.

He asked, how did that get there?  WELLLL, Hubby, you are the one cooking ground meat so I guess you dropped some.  Oh, he said, as he pushes aside his debris from last night's chili making.

I do appreciate his cooking, this is a big relief for me.  I have just one question.  Why, when I cook, I clean up after myself and yet when he cooks, I have to clean up after him????

I don't like to cook, but am a good cook. However, it's so unfortunate that my kitchen is turned upside down when I make even a simple peanut butter sandwich. Can you imagine what it looks like when I make a real meal?

Haha. What is it with men that cook good being so messy? Mine is the same way. I love when he does the cooking, I just don't like the cleanup afterward. :)

My first thought was (after laughing so hard) Quit complaining! After all, I have a hub who can't lift a finger to make his own sandwich. But then I realized, when I make his sandwich, I don't have to put on a haz mat suit to clean up. Now I'm gonna quit complaining! LOL

Same here to a degree, hubby cant even make a sandwhich without a mess lol . Hubby doesnt do much cooking he BBQ's and he does do everything else, handy man, builder, craftsmen etc, the thought of him cooking let alone being in my kitchen, OMG! that scares me! He tries to tidy up bless him I will give him that its just not to my liking ! Am I picky ? , maybe, but they like and have their way of keeping tools and what not, therefore we have our ways as well ! Have a great day !

My hubby does not cook, so I can't relate. But my Dad was an awesome cook even though my Mom did most of the cooking. I just read your about me tab. I loved everything you said and agree with most all of it. Very well said. I don't know who Rachel Carson is though...so I am off to investigate.

Good question. It's why I quit cooking.

Your words very so visual I could see the two of you in the kitchen talking over this meat frying in the pan.

Men do not "see" mess in the same way as a female does.

Just enjoy him for what he is.
That's what I try to do with my guy who will occasionally wait on me.
Mostly I cook and I like it that way.

Blessings and thanks for the lovely photos.

LOL, I don't have a hubby but I can sympathize. And I guess you get to wash the dirty, meat crusted sock as well? :)

Last couple of days I've gained 5 pounds reading your blog. I read, get hungry and then go raid the fridge :D

Because he's a man? I don't know. I don't have a husband so I don't know how all those logistics work.

lol! SO true!
Same thing around here...but hubby can't cook even though he tries. So he just makes a mess. I've delegated him to only cooking on the grill. Works much better. lol!

Looks kind of fancy around here with all your blog change. Nice!

My ex used to cook, but didn't know a thing about properly cleaning up the stove or the dishes or the kitchen. It was a mess when he moved out and took much elbow grease to get clean again. I only microwave and everything stays clean. I don't even boil water on the stove.

Oh man, I have the same problem. I hate to cook but I hate cleaning up after my husband or father more. They use dishes and throw it in the sink without a rinse or cleaning the garbage off the counter...

I prefer when my husband cooks by phone. Little Caesars or something...

Funny, that. I was just considering cleaning the stove and microwave of the caked on mess my husband made. At least I clean up after myself and always microwave with a topper.

Sigh.

Still, the chicken and gravy sound great. I guess you can abide it, but don't look the other way...you may slip on something.

I have to admit, Gail, that I'm a good cook, but I am also a MESSY cook. I do clean up after myself tho. When my hubby cooks, he cleans as he goes. He does a much better job of that.

Shame, shame, shame on me...

I do like to cook occasionally, but being a man I am banned from the kitchen - unless it is to clean the roasting pan! Why am I banned, my cooking is reckoned to be quite good when I get the chance. The odd souffle, roast and three veg, I can cook, so why ban me! No I'm not untidy I leave it clean it's just my wife doesn't understand that a kitchen should be organized MY WAY! It seems once I've put everything away she can't find anything - so I'm banned - regards to all Patrick

Great that he's cooking, even if he's making a mess! I tend to be a messy cook, too... but then I'm the one who has to clean up!

Howard cooks. When his wife died he had to fend for himself and he cooks. It's all micro wave stuff..but the point is..the man tries. That's what is important...but like you...the mess is HORRENDOUS! So..it happens very, very seldom!
