The Silver Moon...

The silver moon
Cries out to me
Come see
The brilliant night
She lights the way
For me to run
With packs
Wilder
Than I can be.

The silver moon
Cries out to me
I cover my eyes
Not to see
Hearing coyotes
Yip, yip, yip
They sing
To me I ignore
The moon.

The silver moon
Cries out to me...

Forty Years Of Love

Writing Prompt from The Mag
First I saw your eyes
Then I saw the rest of you
Knew you were my life
Falling in love with
The feel of your denim
The tobacco smell
And the touch of your hands
Even now
The touch of denim
The smell of tobacco
Reminds me of real love.

The Mag 149 Thoughts

Sunday and time for The Mag!

FIRST THOUGHT
The length of time
From cig to butt
Is short by most standards
Then it’s discarded
In the streets
In the fields
In the gutters
To travel endlessly
Stripped of tobacco
Stripped of identity
It becomes a filter
A filter of nothing
Whose main purpose
For years ahead
Is to simply exist
With all clutter

SECOND THOUGHT
He waited
He watched
He smoked.

He checked the time
Checked it again
Time ran out.

The length of
Four cigarettes
Decided her fate.

The unfaithful
Took her last breath
As he smoked.

Saturday Centus Week 140 On Snowy Roads...

Jenny is still cranking those prompts into the blogasphere.  I do enjoy these prompts.  Makes my imagination work overtime.  One hundred four words, not one word more. Keep it clean and include the words of her prompt "...you want a resolution...".  Add your creation to the list or just visit Ms Jenny and enjoy the contributions.
ON SNOWY ROADS
Oh, my butt was gripping
Every inch of the seat
As Hubby drove wildly
Through snow ice and sleet.

It was a day outing
That turned into night
Glad I wasn't driving
I was full of fright

Icy snow bothers me
More that you’ll know
‘Cause I've hit ditches
Row after row after row.

The day was clear cold
With snow on the ground
The weather man’s lying
Saying none would stick around.

So New Year looms
The horizon filled with snow
You want a resolution
Here it goes…

No icy driving
Anyway, not for me.
I’ll be indoors thriving
In warmth and reverie.

Progress

You can see my table
You can see the floor
I'm calling the art room finished
I ain't doing no more!

Stretching

At some Christmas tables
Were empty chairs
It was not a choice
Just...some weren't there.

Stretching
past the empty spots
Stretching
to join hands
Stretching
to forgive
Stretching
to understand
Stretching
to be okay.

Five Sentence Fiction: Ending

What it’s all about:   Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Each week I will post a one word inspiration, then anyone wishing to participate will write a five sentence story based on the prompt word. The word does not have to appear in your five sentences, just use it for direction.  Prompt by Lillie.  This week: ENDING
The tribe awoke to deep snow marred only by the departing tracks of Two Dogs.  He knew it was his time to leave without becoming a burden to his people causing their exodus to slow.  It was tradition.  Two Dogs, to the tribe, was no more although they would sing songs of his life and remember his greatness as a husband, father, grandfather and great warrior.  Horses blew ice from their nostrils, dogs shook off the snow from the storm, and the keening of one child grew louder as all voices became one melding into the tribal death song.

Snow...

The holiday has passed but the snow is staying.
The crowd I have housed and fed after the holidays...
Hubby, Andrew from Delaware, Toni from Alaska and Andrew.
We played board games (Delaware Andrew and grandson Jake)
We played video games.
We let it snow...
and snow
and snow!
They tried to sled but the cold sent them in again.
Hope your holidays were memorable, too.

Happy Thoughts...

Poetry Jam presents a challenge.  Write about happiness.  No sad poems allowed!

Old cars
Sleeping dog
Both Ramblers
In their own right
Does
 The defunct Rambler
Dream like a dog
And honk while it sleeps?

Winter Storm

The males have gone sledding.  I chose to stay in.  I'm not a winter person anymore.  I shall miss many photo opportunities.  I'll miss many crashes and tumbles but the fun will be in the telling later.

Things I Learned During The Holidays...

No matter how little or how much you cook, there will be leftovers...send food home with guests.

Family is family.  Different, strange, or just down right cantankerous, family is family and we love them.

The taste of food is directly related to the amount of calories.  The higher the calories, the better the taste.

Every one hears the call to dinner but few hear the call to wash the dishes.

Children under four will love the box their gift came in far better than the gift.

Clean house after company leaves.   That way you only have to clean it once.

Columbine Student's Father 12 Years Later!

Guess our national leaders didn't expect this. On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.

They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness.

The following is a portion of the transcript: "Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.

"The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart.

"In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA - because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death.

Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent.

I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy -- it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best.

Your laws ignore our deepest needs,
Your words are empty air.
You've stripped away our heritage,
You've outlawed simple prayer.
Now gunshots fill our classrooms,
And precious children die.
You seek for answers everywhere,
And ask the question "Why?"
You regulate restrictive laws,
Through legislative creed.
And yet you fail to understand,
That God is what we need!

"Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs -- politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.

"As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA -- I give to you a sincere challenge.. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone!

My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!"

- Darrell Scott
Do what the media did not - - let the nation hear this man's speech. Please send this out to everyone you can.
God Bless

Saturday Centus 139

White Snow Bright Snow
Four tiny words
Oh, the volumes they speak
When you see the herds.
White Snow Bright Snow
Sticking to their hair
Icicles hang
Don’t know they’re there
White snow bright snow
Getting pretty deep
Chickens inside
Do not make a peep
Oh, the woes of winter hit the country hard
I’m very grateful it hasn't reached my yard
Ice and snow of years gone by
Seem in memory fresh
I gathered past snow shots
Picking out the best
The scary ones where we slipped and slid
Ice made trees break
Who asked to see?
Jenny did.
That
Was a mistake.

Dry Weather Lake

The Lake Norfork certainly speaks loudly of our drought.
I have not seen these shore lines for years.
Not allowed to park on the dam, Hubby stopped the truck and said, Hurry!  Take some pictures.  No cars are coming.  So I hoped out and shot.  The dam was not generating power this day.  The river looks green with algae.
Below the dam the river famous for its Rainbow Trout is looking pretty sad.  The Norfork River flows into the White River at the town of Norfork.  White River is looking low too.  May the rains come soon.

For Poetry Jam...Walking

A Walk To Inspire at Poetry Jam is a challenge I found through a wonderful poet, Brian.  I thought I might give it a try.  I picked the wrong morning as beautiful days flowed by me this week today I chose to walk.

Winds strong enough to ruffle
Tail feathers on a metal rooster
I walked into the wind
Willing inspiration

I wondered why I picked today
A colder day than any this week
The  ground wet with last night's rain
The sand marked with flows past

Leaves danced in straight lines
A chorus line of early winter
Scattered like my thoughts
Over the winter landscape

Inspiration had been my goal
The day chased me indoors
With no thoughts
Except the price of heating fuel.

A Nice Surprise.

Are you having a difficult time
finding that perfect present
for the person
you never know what to get?
Try a pawn shop.
It's another world.
Pawns shops are not the stores we had during my childhood, a place filled with cursing men and no children and women allowed. This pawn shop was a welcoming store with women in charge.  How's that for changing times?

I Paint...

From Jack Horner's Plum
To Cyber Green
To Steel Gray to Satin Black
Going back to touch up
Here and there
With well worn bristles
I find places I missed
Or had forgotten
My hands stay forever colored
I wear the same pants
To paint
And the rainbow of colors shout
As the pants make
Crinkly sounds when I walk
I go to town
Wearing these pants
So people know
I paint
And don't
Just have dirty hands.

Changing Themes

I'm pretty laid back for a grandmother but even I can not stand this!!!  This was a football themed music/games/sleeping room.  I say clean your room but rarely do I step in. I would peek in and if his games were on the shelves and things picked up I would call it good.

This has been declared a disaster zone and Chief Inspector Nana is taking over!  If this were a town, FEMA would be on site.  We are talking about a sixteen year old who does many outside activities but that is no excuse!

Returning from building fence Saturday the owner of this mess was met by one MAD grandmother.  I found a fork in the floor!  I guess you could say at least his guitar is on a rack but the other three and a banjo were leaned in a corner not even in their case.

Respect your stuff or you will have no stuff.  That has always been a rule of mine since I had children.  Their rooms were cleaned with garbage bags in hand and if it was in the floor it went into the bag.  My girls seriously thought I threw their stuff away.  I sorted it all later and put it in place but I put the fear of room cleaning into them.

Andrew has just now met the mean mother that raised his mother and aunt. Woe, be very afraid!  We are now TOGETHER redesigning his room and sorting, cleaning, and throwing some things away.
Abstract guitar entry door is
just a hint of wilder things to come.
A box and a box cutter
make a new headboard in a teenager's room.  This wall used to be dominated by the bed from hell but now we have a normal bed.  Since I have no headboard I am making one...subject to change.

Andrew at sixteen wants all black but unless he's doing the painting this will be the only black wall.  I don't see a brush in his hand.

Yes, I'm mean.  From this point on, when we have shoveled our way out of this mess, this room will represent a young adult.  That young adult will have weekly inspections and there will be hell to pay if it EVER looks like that first picture again.
