The White Deer With Real Toads

Ralph Albert Blakelock (1847-1919)  "Solitude" (detail)  undated
for a creative challenge.
In the clearing
He danced
For crops
And for rain

Magic was called
She came
In white fur she danced
In the silent rain

Blessing had answered
Yet no one knew
Where she walked
Peyote grew.

Is that a real albino deer that visits you? I've never seen one. Amazing!

Love the personification given to the words "magic," and "blessing." Nicely done!

Gail,

Up north in Michigan we have a totally white female deer she would always visit my aunts home.
I believe that's because she had the sweet apple tree in her yard.

Love the reference to peyote and the psychedelic vibe in the last photo!

Great photos to go with the mystique .
We had a white doe in the area about 8 years ago . There has been a pied doe , spotted on the trail cam the past few years so must be her offspring.

A beautiful poem about an extraordinary creature. She is stunning. I have never seen a white deer before, is she albino?

Wonderful Gail . . .

The poem and pictures are magical themselves - inviting a second and third read.

How your words link the deer and the crops and the desert makes me think of unicorns and magic, but your photo proves the presence of this possibility.

How amazing to see the white deer step out of fairy-tale and into reality.

They say when albino animals appear, the time for the Rainbow Race to arise is at hand. One can only hope!!!!!! This is beautiful, especially dancing in the rain in her white fur. It reminds me of an event I attended years ago in Tofino, where a beautiful young girl , dressed in white fur, danced for the animals. Sigh. So lovely.

This was such a well done verse, Gail, I loved it - mystical, just as is the white deer. Now I have to know if you took those photos, and if so, have you seen it since?

I, too, would like to know if this is your photo... did you encounter a white deer. I was quite drawn to this painting - stood before it (nose as close as I could get) and the detail is lovely.
