a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Your...

...heart stopped
Leaving me lifeless
So each night as I sleep in bits
I touch you to
Feel the heart beat
To know
You still live
And to let you know
You are my life

My breath catches
Until I feel yours
In the day if you nap
I watch
The rise and fall
Of your chest
That tells me
You are still with me
My love

I've done this very thing. More than once too. It's just what happens.

Have a terrific day honey. :)

OMG how well I know these words, it is my story too. Papa Bear's heart sounded so deceptively strong to my ear pressed against his chest, but now I know that it tells lies, and I touch him in his sleep to make sure that I can still feel it beating, and I listen to his breathing and nudge him if it is irregular. Once that innocence is lost I think that we will never truly sleep well again! HUGS to you, and long, long life to your beloved!

Gail,

Dennis is your love, your soul mate. Living with heart disease always makes you more alert, you watch, and touch to make sure everything's alright even in the middle of the night.
