All the wet weather springs
Join the creek
And make it bigger
The force of wild rain
Roars through the valley
Carrying trees
The water gate
Holds nothing now
Except the memory
And debris
Of high water
I am grateful
My ancestors
Built on high ground
For Poetry Jam Rain

ah i def appreciate the high ground when the rains come...have seen too many washed away to think other wise...
indeed.
Wow, that really does wash away a lot of big branches and trees.
Yes, I am grateful that we are on high ground, too. The river is right behind us, we could see it out our back windows before they built the condos. What a sight this is!!
Lovely writing ... third stanza is my favorite.
High ground is a blessing. Great post!
Wise decision that "high ground " . . .
Well done POET . . .
Yes!
You are blessed by that, indeed.
i always appreciate the high ground...i have seen my ground floor rooms become swimming pools and things floating around in the 90's..
ugh..and the hard task of cleaning after the flood...still i feel even flood is better than no rain...nice lines :)
I can see why you would be glad to live on high ground. Nice photo and flowing poem.
You did get a good amount of rain there. It's a good thing you live up on high ground. More rain expected this weekend.
The force of the rain and the wisdom of your ancestors. Very good poem, Gail!
Ah yes, I am glad my ancestors built on high ground too. On low ground, the water always has its way....eventually.
Love this poem!
Yes it is always essectial to build on high ground. Very nicely done.
Oh, I do love that last stanza…in all its levels of meaning.
=)
rain is nice; yet there's also too much to handle; glad to hear you manage on high ground
much love...
We have had rain here the last three days. A thunderstorm just rolled through the valley this afternoon! Things are getting a bit mucky, but I'll try not to complain as we need the moisture!
Sometimes if you live on a river you also live in a river at times...yes high ground is best!
I'm with you! Glad we live on high ground!
It's just so hard to remember the power of something that seems so... Softly lapping... *sigh* Powerful in its simplicity. Bravo!
cool write - really like that closing verse ~
Yes, "high and dry" is good for a house...not so much for a boat, but that's a different topic!
Raging rivers created by downpours are so dangerous!
High ground, I so appreciate it ~ Once you have experienced flooding, its a horrible experience ~ I am amazed though how quickly water can rise up in creeks and lakes ~ Have a lovely weekend Gail ~
Well that was a great write too. I just came from another one of your poems. Your blog and your writing is awesome.
