My sister and I were sewing
A new sailor suit
The top was long enough
For a mini skirt
The pants were Elephant Leg style
As they were making One small step
And one Giant Leap on the moon
We listened and watched
In black and white
But sewed in color
We stopped our chores to make tea and everybody gathered round the TV in the Patients large room, including patients and staff in a hospital in London, England. It was very exciting indeed.
Sewing in color --- a delightful way to use contrast here. I enjoyed your poem so much; I remember that moon walk well. My husband and I were getting ready to move from our apartment to a house, and in the midst of our preparations we saw that surreal moment on tv.

that's sweet. i like it - the details from your world as the astronauts explored space. :)
Nice one, Gail. :-)
Sigh ... those remembrances: so lovely and simple, at the time - and yet, in memory, the layers and the confluence of "that moment": so vivid.
past beautifully recollected in black white & in colors...

That is one of those events that we remember what we were doing in detail. Nicely juxtaposed.
I remember that moment. I don't remember what I was doing though.
what a nice lookback, lovely poem

I too remember seeing them on TV...who was it Walter Cronkite?...:)JP
Ah, yes the memories your poem evoked, thanks.
Nice to look back in your journey :)
I remember that day and this brings back such amazing images. Great poem.
I like the contrast of the black and white TV but sewing in color.
Well done.
=)
This really does recall that time. I remember my relatives gathering to watch the event that day. Thanks for posting
I like your description in the poem of black and white and color! I was just a few months old when that took place!
