The Night They Walked On The Moon

My sister and I were sewing
A new sailor suit
The top was long enough
For a mini skirt
The pants were Elephant Leg style
As they were making One small step
And one Giant Leap on the moon
We listened and watched
In black and white
But sewed in color
Looking Back for Poetry Jam

Sigh ... those remembrances: so lovely and simple, at the time - and yet, in memory, the layers and the confluence of "that moment": so vivid.

We stopped our chores to make tea and everybody gathered round the TV in the Patients large room, including patients and staff in a hospital in London, England. It was very exciting indeed.

Sewing in color --- a delightful way to use contrast here. I enjoyed your poem so much; I remember that moon walk well. My husband and I were getting ready to move from our apartment to a house, and in the midst of our preparations we saw that surreal moment on tv.

That is one of those events that we remember what we were doing in detail. Nicely juxtaposed.

I like your description in the poem of black and white and color! I was just a few months old when that took place!
