The Freedom of Blogdom

I have been thinking about blogging.

What does it give us? Why do we do it? And why are there those that always seem to have something negative to say about anything? My Dad always said, "If you cannot say something good, keep your damn mouth shut!"

Here are my thoughts. You may agree, you may not. You may comment or you may not. That is your choice and your freedom as it is my choice and my freedom to talk about anything I want to from what ever point of view I choose.

Since I have entered Blogdom, I have seen a few friends insulted and forced to move their websites. I have seen people's feelings hurt by unthinking remarks. I have met many wonderful people with amazing stories and thoughts to share.

We choose to blog, to bear our souls to strangers, in hopes of finding a common thread to make our journey through life a little easier. We blog to empty our hearts and know that a shared load is always lighter. We blog to find people to listen to our woes, our triumphs, our successes and our failures. We blog for pleasure and for education.

To thine own self be true and never doubt that what you say touches someone, somewhere, someway.

Be strong, be free.......BLOG!

Well You are so right. My mom use to quote what your dad said. I always try to find something good to say, if I have a comment. It does no good, to be so negative. We live in such a negative society today that I don't think people know how to be nice. AND that is so sad.

Well said. I blog to find a connection with others like me. I have trouble making friends in real life, I'm horribly shy around new people. But through blogs, I can be who I think I really am.

I agree wholeheartedly. Not only have I seen others being insulted and hurt, I've been the recipient of it as well. But I find the freedom of being myself and sharing is also balanced with my freedom to move away from those who make those hurtful and unthinking comments. It took me awhile to feel comfortable with that freedom. Thanks for the thought provoking post, as always! :)

I'm enjoying this blog. LOVE the Haflinger! I used to work on a very large Halflinger breeding farm here in IL. What an awesome breed of "pony."

Very well said Gail and I agree too. Blogging is probably unique to each of us, but similar in that we should be able to express who we are and what we are thinking and feeling without incrimination. Instead of being hurtful and/or diagreeable, maybe people should just "click" and go away to a site they can be more agreeable with. I find it quite sad that people start blogs and then are afraid to use this outlet as a freedom of their own expression, however or whatever that may be from day to day. Freedom of speech is alive and well and should be exercised freely on each person's blog without reservation. Blog on baby!! And did I mention that I just love you and your blog?

Well said Gail. I have seen many friends hurt and myself included. I had only been blogging a few short weeks and had talked about my two step children. Not in a derogatory way either, but talking about how the new life of being a step mother was much harder than I would have thought. I had someone leave a very nasty comment to me. At first it bothered me deeply, then I decided "this person doesn't know me at all". After that I just deleted and moved on.

BTW, you know I love your blog.

I started my blog just for my own entertainment. I enjoy reading your blog along with a few others. I found out more about the ice storm from your blog and a few others than I did on the News shows. And now I think our bloggin' buddies in Australia are posting some fine blogs about the horrors that are happening in Australia with the devastating fires. And as you said some are educational and I enjoy those also. So, keep up the bloggin' and I will keep reading.

Hi Gail. I agree with you.I love to get comments from people on my blog and often they really make me think. Sometimes its hard to know how to reply, especially if people say things that I disagree with. This has happened recently to me.As you say above... all honest comments are welcome. That's the great thing about blogging - the honesty that is laid down on these pages.None of us would wish to hurt anyone. S

I came from a world of be seen and not heard. It took many years to erase this. I am trying to be a positive happy person. Think happy thoughts and it dose make you happy.
I have learned depression, Fear and pain are so deep in some people they either have nothing good to say or are afraid to be hurt. Some people can not laugh for any reason. When asked there is nothing good that happened ever.
Then I have found people who do not want to here any thing negative. You are to stay silent with your pain as they do not care. Life is so full of ups and downs. I have learned true friends are there for all ups and downs. Like you are a true friend. Thanks.

Thanks for the "well put" words!

I find that if I am in a mood and read something I don't agree with, it's best if I CLICK ,and move on.
That is unless the blog has actually requested input and opinions on the subject at hand. I trust that others will not agree and maybe strongly. But again, I trust they will comment to disagree in a fashion fitting of a polite character. NOT always the case huh!

I have to trust the person is receptive enough to handle all comments, when the forum is open as well...hense why I often don't get too personal on my "Horse Blog".
I like the fun of it and don't want it heavy. Sometimes, my life is very heavy for me and My horse blog gives me a repose place.
It is for ME, and I am sooo happy anyone comes to say HAY there now!

I think it is such a privielege and gift to have my computer and time to read and enjoy others lives(I choose) and leave the rest to find those they connect with!
There are Millions around the earth doing this!
BLOG ON-BE FREE!
