a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Hauling A In A Bucket With My Fat Babies On...

Most of the time you see my bare feet or flip flops but I do have boots.  Ariat Fat Babies are the most comfortable work boots I have ever owned.

So off we go on a great adventure to erect a tree stand.  I am riding in the tractor bucket.  It got kinda rough before we arrived at THE SPOT but it sure gave me a different perspective.

Enjoying the view but not the bumps

You who hunt know how you must find the perfect spot where the game is coming through and hide.
With much struggling the stand is up!
See the rope?
Yep that's my hand holding it.  In the beginning that was all that was holding it against the tree.  You have to climb this stand, adjust it, tie it to the tree and test it.

We had a few problems and conversations about the ratchet straps while I contemplated how I could murder my husband.  It wasn't close enough to the pond to knock him out and throw him in. An "accidental" fall would not kill him and would mean more work for me...so I helped.  With teeth gritted.  With my mouth shut.
I won't tell you how many times my heart stopped.  I cannot repeat much of what was said because my blog would no longer be G-rated. Two straps are ratcheted with colorful adjectives and a third strap wrapped and tied for extra safety.  The bar you see hanging is adjusted tight against the tree with only half the comments as the straps received.
The opportunity passed for many homicidal ideas I had while the King tested his throne.  He has issued an Executive Order that limbs must be trimmed.

Enough done for this day but soon I will climb into that bucket and be lifted to the tree tops with a limb trimmer in my hands.  Yeah, another opportunity!

I was not paid by the King or Ariat for this post.

Nothing tests a marriage like a little home project, eh? If you'd had a gun, you could've claimed hunting accident.

our shared DNA has struck again, we don't put stands in trees, but every thing we do together, we sound just like you described... you deserve a medal... it is in the mail... LOL... when i read the first sentence, going to put up a tree stand, i thought you were about to erect one of those big Christmas trees like at the White HOuse

I almost didn't read to the end of this post once I had seen the word hunting, haha.
Anyone who can get up that high is a very brave person indeed. I am going dizzy just looking at the photos :)

I really enjoyed this post. I love that part of being married, when you know you love them too much to kill them but you do think of all of the ways it might work. :) Backing trailers is our waterloo. I don't do hand signals right.
That is a nice blind. Also kudos to you on riding in that bucket. You must be made of tougher stuff than me, I could just feel the jolts and bumps as you were riding along. I always walk.
Have fun building that blind.

All I an say is...you are a brave, brave woman!!! These shots are enough to make me queasy, well...I am afraid of heights. when I read your title, I thought you had some real babies who were fat!! I imagine you had to rent this, we call them cherry pickers. Your husband needs to take you out to dinner and buy you something, and you can tell him I said that! Maybe anther pair of cool boots...

What were those words? I am pretty sure I know them and have spouted them when irritated with my hubby.

I write this while I shake my head.

Well, when you first said tree stand, I thought you meant for an outdoor Christmas tree...

Your hubby is very lucky. Don't think I would help mine with something like that.

Have a wonderful, safe weekend!

May you remember all the 'fun' you had in your Fat Babies, as you cook up venison steaks and spuds. LOL loved the flash backs to a similar day., including the tractor ride in the bucket. lol

This must be a universal thing with husbands....at least you didn't stalk off to the house!

Great looking stand and I love the boots. Funny I was just noticing those boots on the neighbor boys and then neighbor (Mother of two of them) them came by and she was wearing them. I am looking locally for a pair! I may be testing the age limit for wearing boots but I don't give a rip!

Yes, working together can either bring out the very best or the very worst. Hubby and I went through that a couple of nights ago. We got though it finally. Just as you two did.

Have a terrific day. :)

I do so admire your pluck for launching yourself so high into the treetops. Though to look out and see the world almost from the height of eagles must present itself with a memory that will remain forever.

You are definitely quite, quite brave - I don't think that I would be able to find the courage to do that.

Love the boots - went to the home site you gave us and tell Buttons they have "Pink". he,he
A wee test of the minds n tongues when working together - would look quite colourful in print I think :)
My Dad would love that tree stand, we always built ours and then repaired it when the need came - always in the same spot. I like this idea - geesh - I gotta get me one of those tractors and a new toy like Marcy's - now, just to get the boots too. Love the boots. Love to you guys :)
