a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Forty-Two Years Together...

and he still loves me, in spite of or because of all my weird ways.  He told me one year he has never been bored with me.  That may be the secret.

We've had our ups and downs but at the end of the day we never go to sleep mad.  That was the advice my amazing Granny Pruett gave me years ago.

Hubby romances me with rocks and found glass.  These are the best gifts because he knows what makes me happy.  I romance him with food as Granny Pruett advised the way to a man's heart is through his stomach.

It has worked and is still working for both of us.  We are comfortable. I think that may be true love. Knowing what the other enjoys and being comfortable enough not to feel the need  for meaningless conversation. Teasing and joking but always aware of never crossing the line from just plain ornery to mean.

What ever the secret is...it's still working.  We may call each other butt wipe now and then but we always go home together.

Hubby was/is a surprisingly old fashioned gentleman.  He asked my parents for my hand in marriage and picked the engagement ring long before I even knew.  He knew I would say yes!

As I stir arsenic into his soup I smile. I really do love him but he has to go.
Happy Anniversary, honey!!!
Here's to another forty-two if the arsenic fails me.
As Bill Engvall says, "Here's your sign!" but I wasn't reading.

Congratulations, Gail and Hubby on 42 years. It just goes to show, the innocence and meeting around church events and on a sports field, works. I love that you two are also from the old-school who married first, then lived together, etc! Have a wonderful day and another 42 years. (((Hugs))) Jo

Congratulations to two hearts that are definitely meant to be together. Its all about how you say good nite together - My Mother used to say "Never go to bed angry" etc, etc - you know what I'm saying. I love that he asked for your hand in marriage and surprised you with the engagement ring - its so nice to see love flourish like this. Happy forty two to you n TM - lol Hugz to Marcy.

Happy 42nd Anniversary to you and Den!!!!

May you have another 42 years to look forward to!!!

I think a friendship, communication, and being ornery are the ingredients to a true marriage.

Enjoy!!!

Happy, Happy anniversary! I love your wedding picture! Is the bottom of the dress light blue, or is it the light? It seems marriages like yours and mine are getting more and more rare, aren't we blessed?

Congrats to you and your hubby, Gail.
And you have put into words, ther is a peaceful comfortableness after so many years together. And with that, the we can experience fun and silliness with one another.
I'm sure that is as clear as mud!
But you get the drift...

Congratulations! It's true love has to be there but one of the key factors for a long marriage is to never leave - if you never leave you'll still be married every time an anniversary pops up. :) blessings, marlene

Happy Happy Anniversary to a true love-story couple! I know you've got it right because you do it like we do, easy and comfortable, fussin and fun, laughter and tears, and quiet times shared, and never going to bed angry. I'm betting that arsenic isn't gonna work, and I'm wishing you many more years of making happy memories together. We could tell just from the short time we spent together that you two are just right for each other. Do something fun to celebrate! :-)

Happy Anniversary and congrats on the long haul. It's a wonderful testimony when 2 people have it in them to commit to each other come hell or high water and still have a friendship and respect for each other after 42 years. Great job, I'd hold off on the poison right now but do keep it at the ready, just saying. xoxo
