a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

I'm Going In Reverse...

I had to buy my Sportsmen's license (hunting, fishing, trapping) and Hubby needed his annual Trout Stamp...all things to be purchased to fund the work Arkansas Game and Fish Department do in our Natural State.

Every store around used to sell all the licenses but "progress" has you go online or to one of the few Arkansas Game and Fish Offices.

We chose to go to the Calico Rock Arkansas office.  The offices are always different.  They have displays of taxidermy and many pamphlets to take with you.

So beware.  This could be a great museum visit for you or a horror trip.  All the animals USED to live in Arkansas.  Enjoy!

the only photo i liked it the path up to the building. I prefer my critters alive and well.... some of the things here would be for food like you do, others are for sport and it upsets me that people kill animals for sport...

Is that turtle shell as big as it looks?

Surprisingly . . . I would find this an interesting visit to see the taxidermy art up close and personal. Probably more so than meeting alive, head on with the bear and hawks.
Look at that wing span, amazing!

OK, what is that 4th one? Doesn't look like a coyote or a fox.......

Sure looked like a perfect day in Calico Rock.

Our local Fish and Game office is not this interesting. That raccoon looks like it's giving you the "eye."

I bet it would be very educational to go to a place like this. I know for this Dutch woman it would be. I hope there are a lot of signs to read along with the animals to explain what they are etc. What is that large four footed animal anyway that looks like nothing I have ever seen?

What a great place to visit. Is that an elk or caribou?
They still mostly sell them everywhere here. If they had something like that here, I'd go!

Thanks for sharing your visit. :-)

Gail,

Interesting visit at the Fish and Game Office there in Arkansas.
We get our licenses and stamps in town at the Walmart or Academy Stores.

I wrote a nice long comment yesterday and blogger had a hissy fit and deleted it when I went to send it to you. YIKES - I also will go and get my hunting and small game license in the next week - also fishing license in the spring. This is a lovely place, like a museum and taxidermy very well done. I would enjoy seeing all these creatures and I can remember the fish and game area at the summer exhibition had such lovely and elegant animals. I get my license at local hardware store. Have a wonderful day.
