a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

In The Hidden Places

Like an over ripe fruit
Draws wasps and bees
With its sticky sweetness
The spider had lured
The wasp to its web
I stopped to watch
Laid on the ground trying
To capture the moment

What a parent won't do
For their children
Dinner was trapped
and stunned.
The spider danced along her web
Repairing each strand
The wasp had torn
Like an engineer
She kept her leads equal
And judged the balance
With a glance
Drawing the food
Closer to those
Who hungered

spiders weaving there webs is truly fascinating. we have watched the star spiders create a 5 foot web in about 15 minutes.. your words made me see what she was doing without seeing.. and since i don't like spiders OR wasp, her meal is great and i feel a tad better that she is feeding the family...

I watched a documentary on spiders a long time ago and found it really interesting. I have watched them build/weave in the back yard by the barn and have not disturbed their nests......then, in the fall when they are full grown the yard birds eat well and the process starts all over in the spring. Nice poem and you nailed er girl. Hugz to Marcy and hi to all . lol

I may be evil, but when my kids were little, we would find crickets and toss them in webs to feed the spiders. It was fascinating to watch the speed with which the spiders stunned and 'wrapped' their food!

No doubt, there is something wrong with me but when I see some poor insect fly into a spider's web, I race to help it get free. It's just my nature. :) I probably need to talk to somebody.

Another hard working parent in the insect world. I'm not sure I could trap and stun food, but I would give it my best shot to feed the kiddos!

I don't like spiders, better that you laid down and watched this spider, than I.

Nature is always fascinating, isn't it? But spiders are not my favorites.
