love the tree he is sitting in... we get these guys and they drive me nuts hammering on the bamboo in our nieghbors yard. can't wait to try the new zoom on bird or squirrel. the hawk ate them all
Yup it is a Red Bellied Woodpecker , if you had a telephoto zoom lens like I use all the time for my nature shots you could of got closer with out getting closer , but still good shots they can be skittish . Thanks for sharing , Have a good day !

You got a good shot of him!
Those are good shots of a bird who will NOT keep still! Great post, Gail.
Hello Gail, great captures of your Red-bellied Woodpecker. They are one of my favorite woodies. Wishing you a happy day and new week ahead!

Ratta tat tat! I can hear him pecking away!
We had a pair here this summer. Crazy birds and so entertaining. Drove the dogs mad. Happy Monday, Linda

Yes, well done Gail.
Fantastic colour this wood-pecker.
Hope you have a lovely week - I can not believe it will be October on Thursday!
All the best Jan
Yep---you got a Red-Bellied Woodpecker for sure... Did he squawk for you? Mine always 'talks' to me... ha ha
Hugs,
Betsy
Woodpeckers are very strong headed birds, it's hard to get them to pose. Great pictures, I think you're right on with the type of pecker he is.

You persevered and won that round with the local tree doctor.
Your patience paid off, sometimes for ME it doesn't! :-)
GOOD ONE!
