a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

What Is Wrong With Me????

I have some wonderful horses.
Even in their winter woolies
and pasture uglies, I think they are fine.
I can't remember the last time I brushed them.

They are my dream and I stay away.  I cannot explain this funk I am in now.  Go ahead, tell me, jerk myself up by the boot straps.  Get over it!  Slap some sense into me, please.

I love to paint yet I do not pick up a brush.  I love to write and this is the extent of it.  I love to read and I cannot concentrate.  I am a worker and yet I am lazy.  My emotions are flat lined.

Any words of wisdom for this old lady?

I am kind of feeling the same way, maybe it's that time of the year, the body is tired of winter, anxious for spring.
I had a Morgan horse several years ago, I really miss riding, but with my health issues it's best I keep my feet on the ground.
Hope you get out of your funk...consider yourself slapped! LOL

I do believe it's called the winter slumps. Where we are all just so sick and tired of the winter gray days and uck that comes with it. I'm sure when a little sunshine and a little spring hits ya, you'll snap out of it!

Maybe we should lay under a bunch of grow lights...Heeeheehe! Dang were in the teens tonight!

Have a great evening!!!

Yes - my wisdom is this: Consider yourself slapped. snap out of it!

Seriously, it's the weather. Hang in there.

Sounds like depression. I have this problem in the winter when I'm not outside and getting enough sunshine. If you get a pretty day get out in the sun and soak up some vitamin D!! I still struggle with the problem so don't really have any advice except just stick with it as it usually passes. If you get any better advice post about it so I can steal some pointers lol.

I had a bad day today too. Just one of those lay around the house lazy feeling days. I think once Spring comes we will all feel better. At least I hope so.

I agree with the suggestion for some sunshine! Even if it's chilly out - the sunshine can make you feel better! Then of course there's chocolate! Chocolate always helps :D

Everyone I know is having this issue. In fact, a week ago when it was sunny and warm here, my best friend was perky and excited and happy and planning and then a cold rain came and she is in a dark funk writing depressing poetry. Yes, turn your face up to the sun, get some light. When you don't know what to do with yourself, it helps to just do. Eventually it leads to something. You brush out your horses and get some sun and as you're touching them and smelling the familiar hay and outdoor smells and the sun is shining on you, you get caught up in the process. Before you know it, you had a good time and feel a bit of promise, a little excitement about the process of life. Sometimes, you don't have to produce, you just have to be. I'm sure it's seasonal. You've all had a really hard time with the snow this year. Life is about cycles. Accept the times when you feel kind of adrift because they always happen before change. It's like the awkwardness of adolescence leading into young adulthood when intelligence, experience, and beauty all combine to perfection.

ZAP, BAM, WHAP. Consider yourself slapped!

It must be the weather...we're all feeling it here too Gail, but it's the opposite. We want the humid summer to be over and done with and the Autumn to begin.

There is nothing unusual about it. I love my horses and am very happy to spend time with them every morning and night... During the winter I am not motivated to do much of anything with them. But here's the deal...you have to allow yourself not to feel guilty. You are allowed to do as much as you want or don't want to do, as long as they are being well taken care of. Snow, wind, ice and freezing temps are not might favorite conditions for riding. When I was younger, I rode through the winter...now, I don't get such a kick out of riding alone...I preferred having my daughter or boarders to ride with. As all the others have said, SUNSHINE is the magic that motivates. It won't be long.

Yep. I agree, it's the weather, but it's not the horses fault. Get out there and brush them--perhaps you and they will both feel better for the effort.

A friend of mine told me her dog saved her life. She lived in a small apartment in New York City and HAD to walk the dog twice a day. Says if she hadn't she'd have crawled into a ball and been swallowed whole by depression. Think of your farm work that way--perhaps they'll save your spirit with a little gentleness of their own.

I am feeling the same way. I don't think women give themselves permission very often in their lives to just pull back and relax. Veg out and regroup. No matter what you are doing or how much you enjoy what you do. you are going to get sick of the same routine day after day. These feelings usually pass. Be good to yourself, rest more and rejuvenate.

It's called February. It is the worst month of the year. We got into the 60s this weekend and I can't tell you what a difference it made in my mood.

Hang in there Gail. This too shall pass. I am sure you know this deep down that it is just a cycle of life. You will be out there loving on those horses in no time. If this is what you need at the moment then just let it be and don't let guilt get in the way. I am typing this for you and for me right now. I am right there with ya.

I think it's normal to feel this way this time of year. We're all done with winter, but winter is not yet done with us.
No advice to give, 'cause I'm feeling the same way. Winter ruined my plans to ride on Sunday this potential new horse, and I'm annoyed, sad, frustrated and bummed out about it.

I want to put all of these warm weather clothes back in the closet and run around in short sleeves in the warm sunshine again.

Hang in there, my friend,
~Lisa

And yes, you're horses are just perfectly....beautiful!

Tell you what. I DARE you to brush a horse. Just one. But you have to do it before 10 am on Friday.

If you do it, then you get a prize (to be determined later - I'm thinking chocolate, though).

If you don't, then you lose the dare and you have to ... I don't know, maybe do a bunch of jumping jacks. Or something.

In fact, I DOUBLE DOG DARE.

Bet ya' can't.

:) (lemme know if this works.)

Like the others above, I'm sure it's the weather. Soon it will be spring for you. I'm also with "Breathe" above and DARE you to brush a horse. Who knows, it might motivate you to doing all the other things you love. (Let us know)

Sometimes it's just the weather, or the time of the year... in other times, we're chaining ourselves down and not doing anything although we could. The only way to end this? Start doing something. (For me personally, it helps to increase my water intake. Plain, simple water.)
