a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

My Sunday Walk...

did not take me far today.  I was armed with clippers, a hammer and a camera.  I was headed to the  barn to do some poop scooping and hauling that to add to the garden.  Didn't get there...
I worked on replacing the support in the center of the root cellar.  After many years the main post that supports the floor of the above smoke house have begun to rot. To prevent that floor from sagging, thus causing the root cellar ceiling to sag, I had to fix this post...done.

The cellar is no longer used to store root crops and canned goods, only empty fruit jars waiting to be needed.  Yes, that is a dirt floor.
On to the water garden.  The Golden Rod stems has out preformed themselves and were an eye sore...too big for the garden, so out with those and the old money plants.  Note the pecan floating amid the Parrot Grass.  Picked up fallen pecan limbs, picked pecans out of the water garden and clipped invading honey suckle and trees planted by birds.  Now, I am still in the yard!!!

Trimmed the Sweet Williams away from the cellar door and clipped and cleared Andrew's path to the bus. My piles of clippings and limbs are getting quite large by now.
The pear tree is blooming for the second time this year.
Already harvested one crop of pears.

The poke berries shined in the sun's light.
Ten  AM and I am tired!
Did not make it out of the yard.

Lol. Looks like you didn't need to make it out of the yard with all that.

I've not had a root cellar. I'd like to, but here and where we are retiring to, the ground water is too high for something like that. Oh well.

Hope you're having a good Sunday. :)

Shoot, I didn't even get started outside til 10 AM. I've quit out there until the area I'm working in is in the shade. Just not an early riser and then I like a couple of hours to have coffee, read and then breakfast.

I always called the little water plant parrot feather. I think mine finally died (I've had it going for about 15 years) this summer when I wasn't in the city to make sure it had water.

Whew! That's a lot of yard work!

Those are some pretty pear tree flowers--I love the white.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Well I am tired from prepping Thanksgiving dinner (Canada) but after reading this I am exhausted. There is so much to do in the yard this time of year.

Dang, I've been inside all day. First my pre-teen Sunday School Class then song service and down to Kid's Church where I had new little guy from the Children's Home who had ADD and ADHD....keep 'em movin' I say!

After service we went out for Mexican with the Pastor and his wife and finally made the round back to the Ponderosa. We still haven't seen all the cattle and the Donkey (Chalky) my kids grew up with is not to be found. He was gettin' pretty frail and Farm Boy diagnosed him with cancer. {{{SIGH}}} Loads of area to cover here.

Take care and get some rest Girl, tomorrow is a 'work day'! Heeehehe......

Oh I'd so love to have a root cellar! Aren't we the lucky one's - never bored, always plenty to do and see!

Why is it this time of year we think of clearing bushes and cleaning up the yard? I have been doing that lately also.
Have a blessed week

You sure have a lot of work done by 10 o'clock in the morning. That's when I'm still thinking about what to wear. Of course, I don't live on a farm where I can just put on some jeans and walk outside and grab a tool and go to work. It would be very liberating if I could, but exhausting too. Yet I think of all that hard labor and am convinced that it is good for a person. Much better than taking the dog for a walk on the sidewalks of suburbia and having to worry about what I look like.

You have put me to shame. About that time I was making my second cup of tea and reading over blogs. :) I'm hanging my head in shame. Well, maybe not, but I'm thinking about it, does that count?

We have an unimproved basement too.
Nice day, lovely photos...and it all happened, while I was still in bed!
