a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Electronically Erratic!

I rewired an old lamp this week, sewed on some missing buttons and patched some clothing.  I can build fence, buck hay bales, fix some plumbing leaks, doctor my own animals and a varied amount of other things...especially when it involves playing with power tools.
I can operate a camera on automatic
to show how much Bonnie has grown
and how much she dislikes sitting like this...
but give me an programming problem or a hardware techie problem I'm like a fish outta water.  I've had a few friends direct me how to fix this and that and they've saved me. On my own I am lost.

I've always been one who likes to know the reason WHY something works or WHY I have to do it a certain way.  In my mind if there is a reason, I can do it.  This frustrated my parents, my teachers, my employees and still frustrates the people I'm around.  For some helpless reason I can't fix electronics unless I know why it has to be done that way and I don't have a clue.

Since lightning hit our phone I've lost my wireless extender signal to my quiet room.  I have the phone company wireless that grabbed my Netgear that piggy backed my D-Link.  When the phone company "helped" me get back on line, they did something that keeps my Netgear from "seeing" the network...I think I'm using the correct terms. I've done a reset on Netgear.  The computer will "see" the phone company router and will "see" the Netgear but not at the same time!!!

I've poured over pages of directions and nothing made sense to me at all.  Those of you who can read direction manuals as easily as See Spot Run, I applaud you.  When someone says, oh, just do this or that and you'll be fine.  NO, I won't.  I don't get it!!!

So I sit in the art/craft/sewing/creating area with Xbox pounding on my right and Gunsmoke or Bat Masterson booming behind me...through walls.  I need my quiet room!!!

I guess I can pay a Geek fee to get my peaceful spot back.  After all I did save that much by doing my own plumbing this week.

the photo of the lamp is beautiful and i love that lamp and its colors. you know i love bonnie and think she is just gorgeous... she does look 'pained' to be held by grandson...all of the things you can do I can't do, i can do the programming but that is it. yours is more practical and saves you money, mine cost me money. i wish i were there, i might be able to help but i don't know what a network extender is so no help from me...

I wish I could help but you already know more than I do!
Call a geek . . .
A really good one and get your QUIET ROOM BACK!

You lost me with netgear, but your main wireless modem should reach anywhere in the house. I would call the internet folks back and tell them you need a new one. We have sometimes had to call ours to come out two or three times before they finally get it right.
Good luck!

I won't even try then. (Besides, hard to do when I'm not there. Although my father continues to believe I can fix computers over the phone.)
Bonnie has a really big head. At least compared to the person holding her.

Take your Routers in and have them checked. It is always possible something happened.
But yeah, you may need someone to come out.
Good luck. You definitely need (deserve) quiet space. I'm with you on that.

Have a blessed weekend, Gail. ♥

Yes, call the tekkie guy!!! And....I dont understand a word of what you said about your netgear "seeing" or whatever.......I am worse off than you. It took me months of enduring pages that took forfreakingever to load to figure out I am too far from the router. Duh. I so enjoyed this post because I totally hear you!

I just renewed by annual service by the Geek Squad at Best Buy. It covers 3 pieces of technology and the fee is pretty minimal, considering. They keep me running!

It sounds like your computer is cock-eyed! Ha! Seriously, get the tech geek out there You may need a new router or moden. But If it isn't recognizing your system there is probably a problem with configuration. Have you called to see if you need a different code?

Although I am pretty technically savvy, I have no experience with network extenders. I experienced some downtime recently too but ours was related to our provider...:)JP

Well you had my mind buzzing with all that techy talk. All I could think about was - tell me more about that quiet room. Sounds... quiet : )
