a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Stealing Lines

I've always enjoyed shooting things
Preferably things that didn't die
If I shot something I didn't eat
I would be skinned alive

First I used a sling shot
Then I tried a bow
Wasn't nothing I couldn't hit
Draw back and let it go

Then I discovered guns
Man, was that a rush
Point and shoot
Kicking up some dust

I had this great idea
one of those that never is
Instead of shooting chickens
I could shoot some eggs

Mamma boiled out of the house
like a lioness with belladonna in her eyes
One thing I learned very quickly
Before I began to run

Never
ever ever
try
shooting eggs with guns

I thought I was free and clear
I hadn't killed a thing
But filling me with fear
Mamma shamed me

A egg is a baby chick
even if you ate it
the heart makes the simplest things
so damn complicated

Your mamma is fierce, and she is right, never try shooting eggs with guns ~

Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time. Sounds tome as though Mom had her hands full : ) Cute story

I grew up shooting things as well bit we were taught a great respect for life. if you kill it you eat it. we have this great detachment these days from what we eat.

Well.. it seems
your mother
solved the
age old
problem
of the
chicken
or the egg
first..
where
egg
is
equal
to chicken
so it's
a tie
of
feathers
as yolk..:)

It makes sense to me that someone could like the challenge of target shooting without the necessity of killing something in the process. Not many would agree.

Good morning, I like these words, there is no reason to kill anything you could not eat. I agree! But, if it were left to me to kill something I would be going hungry.

Have a happy day!

I enjoyed your poem, having never picked up a gun or held a bow, I have gathered eggs and would hate to see them shot up!

i love this and to me shooting an egg is no different than eating it. it is still a chicken and that is why i can hardly eat eggs. once i cracked and egg for breakfast and there was a tiny dime sized chicken in it. after that i could not eat a boiled egg and rarely eat them. i love shooting to, at targets, bows and guns, rifles or pistols. i am not very good with a sling shot.

I agree about not shooting what you don't intend to eat but then I am a super softy. Kind of like your Mama.

We always told our son the same thing... "you kill it, you grill it."
