Hello Gail, it looks more like a tanager. The house finch would not be as colorful. Great sighting. Happy Friday, have a great weekend!

I think it is too red for the finch. I have never seen a summer tanager. It is a beautiful bird.

Isn't it fun to see that flash of red amongst the leaves and trees . . .
I think it is a Scarlet Tanager too!

You need a telephoto lens.
Here a read bird would mostly likely be a cardinal.

did you have the long lens on and on full zoom? looks like the short lens.. it would be a cardinal here, but not sure what it is. love the trees

Wonderful try, shows off the beautiful greenery. At my first glance I thought she caught herself a cardinal....but whatever it is, fine day to be out and about shooting.

Nice pictures Gail, love the green tree leaves, and the red bird.

I would bet on it being a (Scarlet) Tanager, because of the vivid colours. We have them here, though they are very elusive.

Great captures! This is a safe way to "shoot" birds!

Hi Gail, I don't know birds in your country, but I loved seeing the huge trees and green foliage. I'm glad to see Sandra follows your blog; she's a good photographer and helps me with the technical side. Blessings, Jo

I agree. Tanager. A female cardinal would be browner. I think you did great, Gail. :-)
Hope you all have a blessed weekend! ♥

Hi,Gail....it is always hard for me to capture birds or insects that move too quickly. Have a wonderful weekend.

Not easy to capture birds, but it does make a great splash of colour amongst the trees

All the best Jan

I don't know what type of bird it is but it looks so cute. Sticks out like a sore thumb with those bright red feathers! No camouflage for this little one :)
