a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

Sunday Adventure and Canine Training

A King Snake was discovered...
Ki-Anne announced to the world, I found a snake.
Squiggie wasn't sure, at first, what to do.
It was a beauty.
Every time the dogs would run in,
the snake would strike.
Good practice for them to avoid the poison snakes
and to tell the difference.
(They can tell by the smell)
I poked the snake, gently, with a stick
and he crawled, quickly, to safety.
I said,  Good dogs!!

I always wondered how dogs could tell the difference. Glad the good snake lived for another day.

I hadn't thought about that, but of course it's true about the scent.

Am I wrong to think the snake is an awesome beauty. Am I alone in that? Probably.

Miggy has never seen a poison snake before as we only have Gardner snakes here and even then they stay in the woods, I really dont think she would know what to do other then try to play with it ! Great photos ! Thankfully the dogs know to keep their distance ! Have a great day !

I'm not a big snake-lover, myself, although I do have a picture of myself playing with a garter snake as a child.

My eldest son, on the other hand, LOVES snakes.

=)

PS. We did used to enjoy lizards a lot when we lived in the desert.

You know I was never afraid of snakes, we always had some reptile in our house when the kids were young. The other day a gopher snake was in the pasture and it was minding its own business and I stood there and shook.
I might have a dang heart attack if I saw one like that in my yard. :)

I would have died a thousand deaths at your place by now. Not really--I would have taken off for good at the sight of the first snake. LOL

I'm happy to hear that dogs can tell the difference. I would worry about them getting bit by a poisonous one. I'm sure a snake is very fast. Faster than a dog?

SScary..all sssnakes are ssscary. I just hate them..and how about dogs that are not raised around snakes can they still tell the difference...poisonus or not I am very very afraid of them all.
I am so afraid in the summer that some trucker is going to leave a bunch of snakes in a parking lot..you know they will crawl out of the wheel wells.. I know a unrealistic fear.
That is the one and only reason I like snow..no snakes:)
