My Creative Attempt

I wanted to do something original to my porch...someone suggested coyote fencing. Did not really do my homework, just saw a picture and said I can do that.

Well, let me tell you, it is not as easy as it looks! I gathered wonderful branches and sticks and sawed and placed and caught them as they fell. I rethought, rewired and weaved.
I had fixed the actual porch sides by using old barn boards. Now I had to do the handrail to make one side animal proof.
I have decided to let it set awhile and see if I even like it tomorrow. I have to make a gate and one more side. Help!!!

I like it Gail, I honestly do. I might do that to my back porch. I think you'll wake up tomorrow and decide you do like it :) It really does suit the farm :)

I love it. I have plenty of sticks from the ice storm last winter maybe I could build a fence. lol. I am on flat ground so I do not have steps.
Have a good week.

Oh wow, Cool! That was me that suggested that coyote fence idea. Coyote fencing is a very common sight around here. Many people sell the branches, called Latillas, to create the fencing. It is used alot as livestock fencing, but also for decorative fencing in fancy Santa Fe homes, too.

I think you did a splendid job! :)

First, thank you all for your encouraging words. I accomplished a few things: Got some rotten boards off the ground, cleared a few sticks from the cedar glade and cut up fire wood for Marcy.
Sharon: Maybe I should have done this in the back too. Glad you like it.

Grammy: In Arkansas we do not know how to build on flat ground! How about a short border on a flower bed?

Lisa: I bet your laughing now! I did my best, thanks for the idea. I used mostly cedar limbs since that is what I found. Hard to find a straight one but I guess that is what makes it unique. I THINK I will do the second rail the same and put some kind of gate at the top wide spot. Then I will have a pet free area for just sitting.

Kacy: Thanks for tipping your hat to me. You are right about the raw skill part!

Thanks again for looking and I am open for new ideas. Gotta do with materials I have so let those suggestions fly.

I just love your whole porch, your fencing and the rock work - everything!! Our house doesn't even have a porch on it - imagine that? living in Oregon where it rains a lot and a house with no porch?? What's wrong with this picture?? You truly are a talented lady Gail! I have so many ideas in my head, but getting those ideas to "gel" is truly a talent.

C-ingspots: It is trial and error. You should see the things I did not photograph! About the rock work: We live in Mom and Dad's farm house. Dad worked on road construction and we were and are rockhounds. The rocks were laid mostly by Mom and Dad. However, we all have laid some, even my husband before he was my hubby. It is a very unique collection of sand stone. Many have fossils and formations that are totally different but they all work well together. Dad also rocked the old hog house and the old chicken house. He and Mom trained us well...use what you have.
I could not live without porches! The ground work below the stairs I have added. You would never guess what is holding the border in place...found horse shoes hammered into the ground. Works wonderfully.

Looks gloriously rustic. And now you've given me an idea for all the fallen branches I've got lying around here!
