is a heart of stone
my albatross
counts her eggs
Drastic times call
in your court
for midnight oil
and brass hearts
Drastic measures
become crossroads
while choices kill two
birds riding a dead horse
I must admit this is the most nonsensical thing I've ever written. It's not deep with a mysterious hidden meaning. It's probably not what the prompter intended but I had fun! Which is better, by the way, than having two in the bush. I have read it aloud enough that it seems there is method to my madness. I will dance to these words 'til the cows come home.

you split and mixed them nicely :)
Yes, well done a nice mix.
To kill the two birds riding a dead horse is dissettling and create the image of the familiar unfamiliar.
And your comments are as good as the poem itself - certainly worth two in the bush! Great fun to read and ponder over - meaning comes out almost in spite of ourselves, right?
I love your sense of humor. This was much fun to read! The last stanza particularly makes me chuckle. And, ha, you may dance a long time if the cows don't come home. Smiles.
Those "two birds riding a dead horse" is quite an image. Striking and bold.
A very interesting write. :-)

I am not a poet and I do KNOW IT.. you will know what this means..
I love your last stanza as well, conjuring up a Noir thriller book title, RIDING THE DEAD HORSE, some kind of Raymond Chandler novel. You did rock the prompt, as latitude was built into it. I enjoyed this.
Well, whatever floats your boat Gail! I for one, was drawn in by the title...
Yes, this is totally fun!!! Loved it. Just the thing for the end of April.
That is a kind of Alice in Wonderland poem, very nice!

I like this. I especially like the two birds riding the dead horse, though I'm a little embarrassed to admit it. Peace, Linda
I really like this.

I liked your afterthoughts as much as your poem...and "two birds riding a dead horse"...priceless!
It does sound like it has special meanings or secret ones. Kind of like American Pie.
All that matters is you had fun.
Have a blessed weekend!
You had fun - and so did your readers.
All the best Jan
Liked the mix and thinking about YOUR mind . . .
