a tale of tails, tenacity, and tedium, as told by me, usually barefoot and bellowing

The Old Couple

The old couple stood in a place of honor.  I'm wasn't sure why I loved them.  Was it the beauty of their stature or innocence of a time when honesty and hard work measured your worth? I believe it was a time, sadly past for too many, a time I strive to live.

Carefully I dusted.  The man fell from my hands and shattered on the hard floor.  I wept.

When the tears dried I carefully gathered the pieces, reassembling him with glue and love. The tiny porcelain chips were returned to their original position yet the old man rattled from a tiny chip I missed inside.

Once again he stands with his mate, complete and whole, doing the chores they've always done and will always do.

Their expression never changes. I believe it is contentment, love and joy that they are together forever in their moment of time.

They're an older couple, so they've had a good life together.
He broke? You can't tell. Good job with the glue.

I had a similar ceramic set years ago, one must have broke and the other was sold at a sale. Life was simpler then...perhaps that is why you and I like them:)

They are a wonderful memory of gentleness and innocent times...frozen in time. I would never have known he broke, you did such a good job!

Sweet, happy couple . . .
One can see the contentment of time, place in life and work on their faces . . .
Makes me wonder if we have lost contentment today . . . It seems the simple, unemcumbered has been replaced with, rush, more, noise, insensitivity . . .
Maybe it is just me . . . where I am in the life span . . .
I would have wept too . . . although you brought him back to life . . . back to sweet and contentment.

Wow, Gail, My Mum had a set like this or similar to this and they stood on the mantel in the front room. I always liked them. I think one of my sisters has them.....maybe. I zoomed up your photo and I gotta tell you - you did an excellent job of putting the fella back together. Yes, the olde days, when one worked from dawn to dusk, ate supper and spent a quiet evening before retiring. I try to maintain some of that in my life, as it is a happy place to be. We are not all lost yet, because I think many more people than we would thing, would yearn for this life. Have a wonderful day and H to M :)

The time frame both of these statutes represent was a time frame of true love, life long soul mates. It was during the time frame when family and farm meant the world to this country.

Beautiful statues, I'm sorry to hear he broke. You did a lovely job at putting him back together.

I think my stepmom had these statues, too. She loved them as, well.
Indeed, some kind of glue always holds us together.

I actually love looking at old couples more than the young ones. I think it's standing the test of time that appeals to me. Test of true love passed. :)

It feels as if, when you went to bed, they could come to life and talk.
Glue saves many treasures.

Oh shucks, but good for you to glue him back together, (he's probably better than ever) I have my own attachments that have required glue through the years too!
