The Mag #126 The Lady In Black

Magpie Tales by Tess Kincaid is the place to flex you creative muscles.  Each week she gives us a picture prompt and encourages our imagination to go wild.

At first we think she's waiting
As she smokes her cigarette
But she is watching
For what hasn't happened yet.

One A dances to classical music
One B has lots of cats
One C is always eating
and has become quite fat.

The second floor gets better
A loving couple there
Who quite frequently
Show how much they care.

Two B apartment houses a lonely man
Who sits quietly in his chair
He smokes his pipe in one hand
In the other his gun is always there.

Upward to the third floor
the view is rather clear
This monster beats his wife at night
and no one seems to hear.

Oh, yes, the lady in black is waiting.
A gun within her purse.
A thousand times within her mind
The moment she has rehearsed.

The lady on the third floor
who daily denies the sin
The one who takes the beatings
Is the lady in black's best friend.

Women do suffer a bad fate in your stories. Is there something you are trying to tell us? Even symbolically?

Speculation on lives behind closed doors. There are interesting twists and turns in this tale, Gail. I love the suspense you have so cleverly created. Thank you for sharing. =D

Gail, you musta been saving your creative brain for this one, for you outdid yourself. Really nice read, creepy, suspensful and originally clever and so emerges another dark poem. Kool, just Kool :)

Rear Window indeed. Revenge is sweet, but will she, won’t she? Hitchcockian suspense personified.

What a great idea, Gail. And so well executed (pun kind of intended).

Loved it.

I, too, like the "Rear Window" effect. And I like how you tie it all together.
