I realized on waking or should I say on not sleeping? that is was Wacky Wednesday. A day defined in the past by leaving strange posts by me. Since that seems to have been the norm lately, there will, from this day forth, be no distinction in Wednesday's or any other day's posting title. The day's subject will be random and will be where the voices take me on any given day.
In our school system, Saturday school is a punishment for an accumulation of demerits, be they behavioural or academic. EX: Not finishing homework, not listening, failure to follow instructions. I just signed a sheet informing me Andrew has Saturday school because he has three demerits in reading for not completing his assignment in time allowed. I signed but suggested that a paddling would be a better tool to engage his brain than Saturday school.

Saturday school? . . .I've never heard of that before. I wonder if it works or if it works the kids toward hating school even more? Just a thought. . . because I hated school.

I would laugh hysterically if anyone in our school system suggested any of my kids had to go "Saturday school" - If they made the demerits or didn't do the work - the school can do something on their time or even after school during the week. Heck, they already have my kids for almost 9 hours a day as it is.
I mean - aren't poor grades the result of not doing work and good grades are the reward? And wasn't after school detention &/or suspension created to discourage bad behavior? Now they want Saturdays too? Bah!
I darn sure wouldn't give up one of only two days a week I have with my family for something like this. :D

My voices are telling me to say, "Bah on Saturday School!" Just another thing that reminds me why our family chooses to homeschool our kids.
I don't get it. Just like Skippy Mom said, the school already has the kids 9+ hours a day, plus they send home hours worth of homework and projects every night. Just WHAT do they DO all day long in school?
Standing in lines, moving from classroom to classroom, taking bathroom breaks, disciplining all the kids interrupting the class, waiting for help, yada yada.
If it weren't for all those time stealers, school hours could be cut in half.
After spending 2-4 hours every night helping my kids with homework, I realized I was teaching my kids anyway, so why bother with the public school system? Pulled 'em right out in the beginning of 2nd grade and they'll be 12 this year. It's been challenging some days, but totally worth it.
My kids are thriving and doing better at home than they ever did in public school. Plus they have morals, speak politely, don't talk crass and don't care about peer pressure. They still even have most of their innocence intact, too.
Can you imagine in the old days if they made kids go to Saturday School, when there were crops to farm and chores to do and the kids had to pitch in and work, too? Back then, they paddled their little hineys, instead, so they didn't get out of working on the farm at home. hah!
Paddling and Spanking are evil words now. Some kids need it and some kids don't. My boys needed some paddling, but my daughter never has. You just have to look at her cross and she melts into a pile of tears. Paddling is too extreme for her.
I went to a Christian School for a of couple years and they had a large wooden paddle in the principle's office. That terror was used on me one time. That's all it took to get me back in line. But I did get to carve my name in that paddle. I wonder if that paddle still exists...it might be kind of cool to see my name etched in it one day. lol!
